You might be interested in a mini family session if you only need a few good photos, have a shorter wish list, and are willing to go with the flow of a less predictable time slot.On the other-hand, you might not be right for a mini family session if you have a longer, more specific set of shots in mind, and you are not comfortable with the unpredictability that comes with a shorter time frame.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR CHILDREN’S PERSONALITIES?

There are always going to be children who will not warm up to a family photographer despite their best efforts. Despite everyone’s best efforts, there will also be children with a high level of energy who are unable to sit still.  Family mini photography sessions may be right for you if you are comfortable with capturing your children as they are, whether they are smiling (or not), climbing, jumping, or anything in between. Perhaps you have a group of outgoing, cooperative children that you know will listen attentively during our short time slot.

If you are really interested in capturing the exact kinds of photos you want, or if you have a child who is difficult or highly energetic and are not confident you are able to capture the shots you desire within a short period of time, a mini family session might not be right for you. You should keep in mind that this is one of the great benefits of a full session! Children have time to warm up, and we have time to burn off that energy and capture some unforgettable moments.

HOW MUCH IS YOUR BUDGET?

If you are on a tighter budget, a mini session is an excellent option. A mini-session is a great way to get photos from a photographer you love without completely blowing your family budget.

WHAT IS YOUR LEVEL OF FLEXIBILITY?

Due to the fact that mini photo sessions are typically stacked, punctuality is extremely important. If you are always late for things, a mini session may be a major source of stress. The majority of family photographers are unable to honor any lost time since there is someone else who has a spot immediately following yours. Thus, if you are late or have less shoot time than the typical 15 minute mini slot, you would forfeit your spot altogether. If you are extremely punctual and confident that you and your family will be able to arrive at your session on time, a mini session might be right for you. The mini session may not be right for you if you are honest with yourself and know that it would be difficult to honor a very specific time slot, or your children have stricter schedules that you do not feel comfortable deviating from.
